Speakers:

Julie L. Wilcke, MSN, RN, CNOR, Kettering Medical Center

Carol D. Applegeet, MSN, RN, CNOR, CNAA-BC, FAAN, Kettering Medical Center

Curtisha M. Persons, AAS, RN, Kettering Medical Center

Overview:

Changes in health care, especially those in the perioperative environment, seem to be constant. One organization experienced several major changes in a single year, including changes in leadership, big bang implementation of a new EMR, opening a surgery center within the hospital, consultations focused on surgery governance and Lean initiatives, and a change in accreditation bodies with a resultant survey. The speakers will describe the changes that impacted the perioperative staff and the plans that were developed as a result to help staff stay involved and aware of planned changes.

Objectives:

  • Describe the phases of the change process.
  • Identify the impact of rapid change on a perioperative department.
  • Create an action plan to address staff needs during times of rapid change.
