AORN welcomes student nurses and faculty to Surgical Conference & Expo 2014

We invite you to our special student nurse program, and full-time nursing faculty program.  Student nurse can attend this free* event for the special one-day student program on Tuesday, April 1, or for the entire week.  Nursing faculty may attend their special program free of charge.

  • Hand hygiene
  • Gowning and gloving
  • Patient positioning
  • Skin preparation

Students will progress through stations at their own pace.  Each station is manned by clinical educators from facilities across the nation.  Nursing students will also have the opportunity to visit the extensive Exhibit Floor which provides them with an opportunity to search surgical products and technologies that are used in providing care to the surgical patient.

Below are objectives for both the hands-on session and the exhibit hall experience.  If you have any questions about this program or how to incorporate the experience into your curriculum, please email Susan Root, MSN, RN, CNOR.

Objectives for Student Hands-On Session

  • Apply sterile gloves without contaminating them
  • Demonstrate how to properly perform abdominal skin preps
  • Describe the safety issues involved with electrosurgery
