Who We Are
In our mission to promote safety and optimal outcomes for patients undergoing operative and other invasive procedures, AORN provides practice support and professional development opportunities, including educational resources that enable the safe surgical practices of perioperative nurses working in the inpatient and ambulatory settings.
At the core of our educational offerings for patient and workplace safety is AORN's Perioperative Standards and Recommended Practices. Updated and published annually, it is a compendium of 30 recommended practices that are evidence-based and peer-reviewed.
AORN is governed by a board of directors consisting of the officers and seven elected members. It has the power, authority, and the responsibility to manage the affairs of the association except to modify actions of the House of Delegates.
We monitor nursing and health care laws and regulations and, through our National Legislative Committee and AORN state legislative coordinators, coordinate and engage AORN members who are active grassroots advocates to participate in the legislative and regulatory processes. Legislative priorities are established by the AORN Board of Directors to protect and enhance the profession of perioperative nurses.
