Outstanding Nurse Philanthropist Award Winner

Joan Spear is passionate about the education, growth, and development of perioperative nurses, and her dedication to the Foundation’s mission has allowed her to share her passion with many.

Her support for the mission of the AORN Foundation has been demonstrated through her generosity and service to the Foundation in the following ways:

• Was a member of the Silent Auction Committee.

• A member of the Benefactors’ Society since it was founded in 2019.
• Worked diligently to grow awareness of the Foundation by speaking to AORN chapters and assisting with solicitation and stewardship of donors' gifts.
• She could always be found at Expo working in the Foundation booth, distributing grant checks, talking to donors, and helping with whatever was needed.
• Established an Endowed Scholarship, and as a result, over the last 9 years, has enabled 14 nurses to continue their nursing education.
• As a member of the Foundation Board of Trustees for 12 years, she brought her perspective as a perioperative nurse in Industry to the strategic conversations that drove the Foundation’s work.
