For the technologically savvy anesthesia provider, looking up CPT codes can be as easy as looking up a phone number, thanks to a new Apple iPhone application developed by San Jose, Calif.-based anesthesiologist Richard O???Leary, MD.
The application, called GasCoder, looks up CPT and ASA (CPT anesthesia) codes as well as base unit values for all procedures in the 2009 CPT book. Dr. O???Leary says the idea for the app came to him in early 2008. "I was thinking if my iPhone could save thousands of songs, e-mail addresses and phone numbers, there had to be a way for it to store and search for anesthesia billing codes."
The purchase price of $149 entitles you to receive free updates to the GasCoder program and both the AMA???s CPT and the ASA???s Crosswalk databases through Dec. 31, 2009. Code updates for 2010 are scheduled to be available by January 2010 at a reduced price for GasCoder program owners. The program, which works with both the iPhone and iPod Touch, is available on the Apple iTunes App Store.
