SHOW THE WAY
Signs Smooth The Surgical Schedule
At our fast-paced ophthalmology center, we've made laminated signs with the names of our physicians on them. We hang them above the stretchers in each pre-op patient bay, so they can know at a glance which patients are theirs. This works really well when there is more than one surgeon operating at a time. We've also laminated a "Next" sign, which we hang on the IV pole so the OR nurse knows which patient is up next on the schedule to be taken to an OR. This cuts down on the time it would otherwise take her to figure out who's next in line.
