- When learning new machines with multiple buttons and switches, label colorful surgical tape No. 1, No. 2 , No. 3 and so on, and place it next to each switch to signify in what order to proceed. Leave the numbered labels on until everyone is oriented and comfortable with using the machine.
- Nothing can cause your recovery room to back up more than patients left stranded by their rides home. "Always get at least one phone number for the family. Two is even better!" says Alice Barczak, RN, CNOR, of the Lovelace Medical Center in Albuquerque, N.M.
