A Simple Way to Keep Instrument Sets Organized

It can be a time-consuming challenge to keep instrument sets intact when they go through the decontamination step of reprocessing, so we developed a simple numbering system to help ensure instruments remain with the case carts they arrived on. Each case cart in our hospital is numbered. When a cart enters the decontamination area, a tech attaches a stainless steel clip with a number that matches the case cart to each instrument pan. When reassembling the sets for sterilization, techs match up the trays for a particular case cart before sterilization. The system helps keep instrument sets organized and increases the efficiency of the sterilization process.
