A massive theft of medical records threatens to expose not only financial information of the rich and famous, but also some of the surgical secrets behind their celebrity beauty.
A former employee at an upscale Beverly Hills plastic surgery center run by Zain Kadri, MD, FACS, is accused of stealing the records of 15,000 patients and of taking photos of unconscious patients while they were being worked on — photos that she later allegedly posted on social media.
The unidentified employee was originally hired as a driver and translator but later moved to more administrative work, according to the New York Daily News. She reportedly quit after being accused of padding her time charts.
The photos were discovered on a corporate phone left behind by the employee after she reportedly violated a restraining order and was escorted off the premises by police.
Additionally, physical files and hard drives containing data related to thousands of patients were taken during a break-in at the clinic, says a clinic spokesman. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office is investigating the alleged burglary and plans to question the former employee.
Patients are angry about the breach, says the spokesman, adding that "if this info gets out into the public eye, it could be seriously damaging to them."
