Surgery can be scary for anyone, but especially so for the littlest of patients. That’s why we provide kids with crayons and surgery-specific coloring books (osmag.net/tEJyA7). Coloring in the books distracts the kids from what’s going on around them. The scenes depicted on the pages also help parents and providers explain what will happen while they’re in the facility and what they can expect when they go home to recover. Parents are stressed, too, and appreciate seeing their kids enjoying the coloring books, which gives them a fun and creative way to communicate about the surgical process they’re experiencing together.
