Ideas That Work: Interactive Tool

Staff Meetings Don't Have to be Boring

We use a free game app (kahoot.com) to turn ho-hum staff meetings into fun, interactive learning sessions. It's easy to input a series of multiple choice or true-false questions into the app's software. Each staff member downloads the app onto their cellphone and comes up with a creative screenname. We project the questions and screen names — there's a lot of laughter as we try to figure out who's who — onto a wall in the meeting room. The questions typically pertain to new policies or topics covered during the meeting, and staff use their cellphones to submit answers in real time. The app tracks the answers, awards points for correct responses and displays a leaderboard as staff cheer and boo as the point totals change. Winning staff members receive gift cards to a local restaurant. By the end of the meeting, everyone is engaged in the discussion about the topics we quizzed them about.
