Ideas That Work: Light Reading

Keep Patients Informed and Entertained Before Surgery

The PowerPoint deck displayed on one of the flat screen monitors in our lobby runs on a loop and includes answers to commonly asked patient questions and bios of staff and surgeons. The bios include traditional professional background information, as well as light-hearted nuggets such as a surgeon's favorite saying or a staff member's favorite sports team. Patients actively watch it. They love it and often laugh out loud in the waiting room, which plays a key part in them being relaxed before their surgeries. The information also leads to some fun and interesting conversations when patients ask members of their care team about the fun facts they read while waiting for their surgeries.
