12:50 p.m. – 1:50 p.m. – General Session #1

In March 2020, Angela Hohn, RN, BSN, BS, CNOR, FCN, a perioperative nurse in the Atlanta VA Health Care System, was told she had stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer. The devastating diagnosis likely caused by decades of exposure to surgical smoke sent Ms. Hohn on a personal crusade to rid ORs across the country of dangerous plume. She teamed up with Brenda Ulmer, MN, RN, CNOR, a past president of AORN and longtime advocate of surgical smoke safety. Together they embarked on a lobbying effort to pass a law in Georgia that would require healthcare facilities throughout the state to install and use surgical smoke evacuation systems. Learn from this inspiring story of personal and professional triumph to advocate for smoke evacuation legislation in your state. 1 CU
