In November 2024, the American Nurses Association (ANA) took a stand to make the nursing community stronger and allow the voices of this profession to be heard to build meaningful, positive results for the profession.
According to a press release, “ANA is excited to announce the launch of the Nurses Action Society (NAS), a new initiative designed to empower the association’s members to engage with federal officials and advance the public policy priorities of the nursing profession. This program aims to ensure that nurses have a strong voice in the legislative process, influencing policies that impact the nursing community and health care at large.”
The newly launched initiative will help members, known as “Ambassadors,” participate in exclusive networking events throughout 2025 to connect with peers. ANA members are encouraged to become nurse leaders through education, advocacy and participation on the local and national level.
Additionally, the Nurse Action Society “will equip nursing advocates with the tools, resources, and exclusive opportunities needed to become effective nurse advocates. As NAS Ambassadors, members will gain access to a wealth of educational content, including webinars, videos, and training sessions, to deepen their understanding of the association’s public policy priorities.”
Ambassador members of NAS will have the chance to represent the nursing profession in meetings with policymakers and healthcare stakeholders, fostering meaningful relationships to drive positive policy changes this year as the initiative takes hold.
The American Nurses Association represents the interests of the nation’s more than 5 million registered nurses and advances the profession by fostering high standards of nursing practice, promoting a safe and ethical work environment, bolstering the health and wellness of nurses, and advocating on healthcare issues that affect nurses and the public.
