The Ambulatory Surgery Center Association (ASCA) tracks the evolution of the ambulatory surgery market including ownership models that have developed over the years. Who owns and operates a facility and how has a direct bearing on the financial success of a facility and the patient outcomes that drive success. 

In Advancing Surgical Care, ASCA estimates that more than half of ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) are physician owned and explains the benefits of physician ownership on their website. The website reports, “In the ASC setting, physicians can schedule procedures more conveniently for patients, assemble teams of specially trained and highly skilled staff, ensure that the equipment and supplies being used are best-suited to their techniques and design facilities tailored to their specialties.”
