Safety Check
ID Pediatric Patients and Their Parents

I'm a surgery center administrator with a background in post-partum/nursery care. In that field, you band babies with parents to make sure the correct baby goes home with the correct parent. I carried that over to our pediatric patients. The parent that signs the consent forms gets a wristband that matches her child's band. When we go to the waiting room to call for a pediatric patient's parent, we know we're connecting with the right person and there are never any mix-ups in the recovery room. This has increased the safety of our pediatric patients and decreased our risk of violating HIPAA laws.
