"Huggle Board" Boosts Staff Spirit

The nurses of our ambulatory surgery unit arrive at various times between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m., so we can't all gather to start our day with a huddle like a lot of clinical teams do. But we can be sure that our daily "huggle" will keep us going through the day. The huggle board is a whiteboard we hung in the corridor between pre-op and the OR, between our dressing rooms and recovery, someplace everyone walks past several times every day. And every day for the last year or so, Lorre Walton, LVN, a staff member who has nice penmanship, has been writing an inspirational quote or saying that promotes teamwork, self-confidence or self-improvement. Everyone looks forward to reading the day's huggle. It gives us a moment in an otherwise hectic day to lift our spirits and improve our attitudes.
