Ideas That Work: Infection Control

Stop, Wipe and Go

CODE BADGE Remind staff each day to clean not-so-obvious sources of infection-causing bacteria.   |  Lafayette General Surgical Hospital

One of our staff members noticed that we're always touching our ID badges, and that pre- and post-op staff touch their stethoscopes, and even the time clock to punch in and out, before touching patients. We decided to send out a "Code Badge" intercom alert, at different times each day, to act as a hard stop for every staff member to wipe down their ID tags, stethoscopes, phones, personal electronic equipment — and yes, the time clock.
