Upgrade Your Sterilizer
The new 700 Series Vacuum/Gravity Steam Sterilizer offers more features than its predecessors, but will still fit in the same floor space, making it easy to replace an obsolete sterilizer, its maker, Getinge/ Castle, says. You can create up to 22 customized cycles for sterilizing surgical instruments, utensils, porous goods, glassware and liquids, and the control system, displayed on a 5.7-inch VGA color screen, monitors the cycles. Audible and visual alarms alert you if the cycle deviates from its parameters. The unit's corrosion-resistant chamber measures 26.5 inches wide by 36 inches high and is compatible with existing Getinge/ Castle loading equipment. List prices range between $125,000 and $175,000.

Steady as she goes
Surgeons may be able to do a smoother capsulorrhexis with Rhein Medical's Kershner Butterfly Capsulorrhexis Forceps. The distal blades have cystotome tips, which can open and grasp the capsule in one step, and their design lets surgeons reach all areas of the capsule without lifting the incision, the company says. The instrument's delicate finger grips provide control and help prevent flap tearing, according to Rhein. The forceps are available in a short-handle or a long-handle design. They are autoclaveable and guaranteed for life. Contact Rhein Medical for price information.
