Turn Your OR Table Into a Spinal Table

Turn Your OR Table Into a Spinal Table
A new attachment system makes converting a snap.

Considering offering spinal procedures at your facility but aren't sure if you'll do enough cases to merit purchasing a specialized table? The Allen Spinal System from Allen Medical Systems is a frame that attaches to almost any OR table to give all the support and positioning necessary for these procedures. According to the manufacturer, it can move the patient into a jackknife position using the table's lift system and can be adjusted to accommodate patients who weigh up to 400 pounds, provided that the table can withstand that much weight. The system's carbon fiber extension provides enhanced C-arm access. After the procedure, this system can be folded into a 2-square-foot space for easy storage. The manufacturer declined to disclose the list price.

Avoid accidental needlesticks with a shielded syringe
The Turtle Safety Syringe from Medical Safety Technologies is the only passive, self-sheathing syringe that never exposes the needle during the entire injection process, says the company. Two locking tabs keep the needle covered until you're ready to administer an injection. If the patient moves, the spring mechanism pushes the shield so it covers the needle's tip to prevent accidental sticks. The list price ranges from $0.85 to $1.25 per syringe, depending on the volume you order. Learn more at (956) 687-6784, www.medicalsafetytechnologies.com or circle 168 on your Reader Service Card.

Disposable laryngoscope blade system reduces the risk of transmitting infections
No more disinfecting your laryngoscope blade when you use the Cobalt Single-use System, says Verathon Medical, which calls the combination of a single-use, sterile flexible sheath and reusable video baton ideal for fast-paced intubation settings. Anesthesia providers simply throw away and replace the sheath before the next case to avoid patient-to-patient transmitted infections. The video baton, which provides a clear, real-time view of the patient's airway, features a high-resolution camera. The sheath can be angled up to 60 degrees, says the company, which declined to disclose the price. Learn more at (800) 331-2313, visit www.verathon.com or circle 169 on your Reader Service Card.
