Leaders often mentor staff who are hoping to grow their careers. It’s just as important, however, for leaders to have their own trusted, objective advisors to lean on. Former bosses often fill this role well, as it certainly helps when someone who knows exactly what you’re facing can offer counsel. Don’t limit yourself when selecting mentors, though. Trusted advisors can come from anywhere, even completely different industries. Think broadly and open your door to a diverse range of expert advisors. Regardless of whom you trust in this vital role, your mentors must have your best interests at heart, remain objective in all situations and, perhaps most importantly, be available to provide honest feedback whenever you need it.
Great leaders rely on great mentors to provide objective advice regarding the numerous challenges they face.
