Text the Patient's Family Updates from the OR

With the Electronic Access to Surgical Events (EASE) smartphone app, friends and family members stay informed about the progress of their loved one's surgery. Up to 10 registered recipients download the free app to receive encrypted, HIPAA-compliant images, videos and text messages sent by the surgical team that automatically disappear after 45 seconds to eliminate worry about deleting the sensitive information. Nurses send updates from the OR throughout procedures, which the app's developers say increases patient satisfaction and loyalty.

Manage Preference Cards On Your Smartphone

Tired of dealing with the frustrations of surgeons whose preference cards are wrong or obsolete? You can now take matters into your own hands with an app called MySurgeon. Available at the App Store on iTunes and at mysurgeon.net, the app, created by a veteran orthopedic physician assistant, lets you create, edit and store surgeons' preferences and procedures, eliminating the need to rely on potentially outdated or inaccurate facility cards. Users can also share data with colleagues via text or e-mail, and store appointment and contact information. Subscriptions start at $2.49 a month or $24.99 a year.
