Not a good week for Yorkville Endoscopy, the Manhattan clinic where Joan Rivers lost consciousness last August. Days after CMS pulled Medicare coverage, word surfaced that AAAASF had stripped the center of its accreditation.
The clinic's AAAASF accreditation was terminated effective Dec. 9 after a survey of the facility, says Kim Kubiak, the organization's associate director of public relations and marketing, adding, "As far as we're concerned, the investigation is closed." She declined to elaborate.
For its part, Yorkville plans to stay open. "Yorkville Endoscopy LLC does not intend to cease operations. Yorkville is hoping to cooperate with regulators to have the recent decision reversed or modified," Yorkville said in a statement to ABC News.
A glimmer of good news for Yorkville: CMS has extended the termination date of the Medicare agreement with Yorkville by 30 days until March 2, 2015. Yorkville must file a Plan of Correction (POC) by January 26, 2015. Upon acceptance of the POC, CMS will conduct one final unannounced survey to determine if Yorkville Endoscopy is back in compliance. Yorkville Endoscopy must be in compliance with all Conditions of Coverage (CFC) in order for its services to Medicare beneficiaries to be reimbursed under the Medicare program.
Yorkville Endoscopy did not return a phone call from Outpatient Surgery Magazine.
