The man is seeking more than $50,000 in damages after suffering from complications following cataract surgery.

DISPUTED OUTCOME A Chicago-area patient claims he was left with severe complications after his surgeon allegedly implanted the wrong lens during his cataract surgery.

A suburban Chicago man recently sued a local outpatient surgery clinic and ophthalmologist after he says the surgeon botched his cataract surgery, leaving him with permanent injuries, court records show.

According to court records, George Tourloukis filed a medical malpractice lawsuit last week against Elmhurst (Ill.) Outpatient Surgery Center and his eye surgeon, Spero Kinnas, MD. He claims the surgeon flubbed his cataract surgery, leaving him permanently injured and requiring corrective medical care.

Mr. Tourloukis underwent cataract surgery on his right eye on Jan. 24, 2014 at the center, reports the Cook County Record. According to the suit, Dr. Kinnas allegedly implanted the wrong lens, failed to provide follow-up care and neglected monitoring the patient's condition. No further information about Mr. Tourloukis' claims was immediately available.

Due to these errors, Mr. Tourloukis says he suffered permanent injury in his eye, which prevented him from working. He also alleges that he spent "great sums of money" to fix the failed surgery, according to the report. He is seeking more than $50,000 in damages.

The Elmhurst Outpatient Surgery Center and Dr. Kinnas did not return Outpatient Surgery's requests for comment. Jennifer Timm, an attorney representing Mr. Tourloukis, declined to comment on the case.
