2025 Salary Survey Shows HOPD Staff Generally Satisfied With Compensation

Outpatient Surgery Magazine’s annual analysis of its readers’ compensation packages dove beneath the data to take leaders’ temperatures on a variety of issues including job satisfaction in the hospital outpatient environment.
The survey showed that larger hospital systems offer bigger salaries and superior benefits than their independent same-day surgery competitors, which leads to generally high satisfaction marks.
Nearly 57% of HOPD respondents said they were generally or extremely satisfied with their compensation. About 24% were neutral and 19% said they were generally or extremely dissatisfied. Approximately 62% expressed some level of confidence that their pay did or would increase sometime in the calendar year of 2025.
A total of 28% said they thought they earned more than their colleagues in similar positions elsewhere in the country, while about 45% said they think they earn less.
Despite the generally satisfied responses about compensation, the survey revealed that pay was the top reason employees left, which was like responses in previous years. Perhaps this job movement is an indication of how some workers switch from one nearby health system to another to gain better hours or a higher salary. Other reasons for leaving a job include travel nursing options or dissatisfaction with job duties or bosses.
