Leaders often work with people who can be difficult at times. It’s important to develop productive and respectful relationships with these team members to maintain a positive work environment for everyone. Try to determine what they like and don’t like about their job or work environment. See if you can make changes that relieve any stress and discontent. Make a point of recognizing and encouraging them when they do something well. If they cross a line into violating policies or standards, be sure to document everything and follow your company’s procedures while guiding them to get on the right track. Be aware, too, that your own behavior serves as a model for your team to follow as they deal with difficult people.
A great leader uses different approaches to guide team members with an open mind.
