The days of the tyrannical boss who squeezes results out of an ever-fearful staff are over. Have you received the memo? As younger workers enter the workforce each year, their tolerance of and response to being yelled at is limited and causes many to mentally shut down or even quit. Today’s labor force responds much better to a firm but empathetic leader. The emerging concept of “caring leadership” — where the leader consistently makes staff feel valued, supported, appreciated and heard, and is present and available as much as possible to provide support and guidance — can enhance staff productivity and foster stronger commitment to their jobs, colleagues and facility.
A great leader practices a caring style and is available to staff.
