At Eye 35, a busy ASC in Schertz, Texas, the staff strives to keep their patients calm and any excess paperwork to a minimum. “Some medical records such as medical history and medication reconciliation for the patient’s next surgery are held until their next visit. This saves redundant printing of paperwork or the patient completing the paperwork again,” notes Carson McCafferty, MSN, RN, CNOR, CSSM, CSRN, clinical director for the facility. Her staff uses a basic brown accordion file to store the past medical history and medication list forms. “We organize per surgeon then alphabetically by patient last name,” says Ms. McCafferty. OSM
