The summer of 2025 indicated no slowing down of ambulatory departments being upgraded and included in hospitals with new additions and renovations. Activities in the hospital environment include major renovations, new Cath labs and brand-new hospital launches across the country, all indicators of the market’s strength.

Outpatient Surgery Magazine’s New Surgical Construction Bulletin (NSCB) reports daily on the construction and renovation activities in the outpatient community in both hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs). Upcoming activities and trends are included as ASCs and hospitals continue to evolve their footprints and expand surgical service lines.

Among the projects are multimillion-dollar investments while others may be smaller in scope, but each announcement in NSCB provides details about the volume regarding any new builds and renovations in the planning stages. This AORN proprietary database keeps users informed about all 50 states 24/7.

For the summer months of June, July and August, activity was busy with a total of 92 projects reported, all indicating future activity as projects are placed in the books. June 2025 reported 30 projects, July recorded 35 projects and August reported 27 projects.

Hospital activity accounted for a total of 60 of the future projects tracked for this summer, a majority of the activity. The types of projects being tracked range from new hospitals, plus projects that called for major renovations, additions and equipment, as well as new Cath Labs in hospitals.
