You Can’t Lead Others If You Neglect Yourself

Some leaders, especially those who possess strong empathy and emotional intelligence, can funnel themselves into a trap. By focusing so much on the needs of others, they neglect their own needs. Employees can sense when a leader is emotionally and spiritually worn down. Those feelings can spread throughout the staff, some of whom might think, “Wow, if our boss feels like that, things must be getting really bad here.” If you feel you are “running on empty” as a leader, have the self-awareness to realize it and take some constructive steps to administer self-care — both physically and mentally.

A great leader knows when it’s time to refuel and take care of themselves.
