Effective Mobility Protocols: Safely Transitioning Every Patient
Early mobilization is a key component for optimizing patient outcomes in the ICU. A standardized progressive mobility protocol provides an outline to develop and implement evidence-based interventions that will improve patient mobilization safely and effectively.
The American Association of Critical Care Nurses and the Society of Critical Care Medicine endorse the ABCDEF bundle as a patient and family-centered approach to facilitate early mobility and manage patients’ pain, sedation, and delirium in the ICU. Phases of mobilization described in this webinar include goals and interventions to consider for safely progressing mobilization of the patient.
Learning Objectives:
- Explain how using a standardized mobility protocol at all levels can improve patient outcomes
- Discuss how the mobility protocol starts in the ICU and continues throughout all phases of care
- Discuss the evidence-based practice ABCDEF bundle
- Describe the importance of including the family and patient in mobility goals
- Explain how a standardized mobility protocol can fill the gap of staffing and improve patient outcomes using technology
- Review documentation in the electronic health record
