Crystal Bricker is a nursing professional development specialist at Carle BroMenn Medical Center, Normal, Illinois. She earned a BS in nursing from Illinois State University, and a MS in nursing education from Benedictine University. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in nursing at Illinois State University, and has been a member of AORN since 2013, serving in many leadership roles at the local, state, and national levels. Bricker is president of her local AORN chapter (1416), chair elect of ICORN, and chair of Clinical Nurse Educator Specialty Assembly (CNESA). In her clinical role, she supports staff professional development/certification and education, surgical smoke safety initiatives, and introduces nursing students to what perioperative nursing is all about. Crystal promotes student involvement in learning about perioperative nursing through guest lecturing at local nursing schools. and collaborating with these academic institutions to facilitate greater student exposure to the specialty.
