Elizabeth A. Austin Evans, DNP, RN, CNOR

Nationally recognized perioperative nurse educator

Dr. Elizabeth Austin Evans is a nationally recognized perioperative nurse educator. A member of AORN for over 21 years, she's an engaging panel and poster presenter at AORN Expo as well as a chapter leader and officer. Austin Evans achieved a DNP from California State University of Fresno/San Jose in 2015 and is a veteran of the United States Army Nurse Corps. Attending a course at a local hospital, based on the AORN Guidelines and textbook, she was able to achieve her dream of becoming a perioperative nurse. As a certified perioperative nurse for more than 17 years, she has served as: the advanced clinical nurse educator at Torrance Memorial Medical Center for 11 Surgical Services Departments and an interim nurse professional development specialist at MedStar Southern Maryland Medical Center for the perioperative, perianesthesia, and endoscopy suites. Austin Evans has administrated over five Periop 101 cohorts with over 50 percent retention of nurses who are new to practice in the operating room. A relational leader, Austin Evans promotes collegiality and respectful communication between the interprofessional team members.
