Farrah Barnes

Perioperative/Cardiovascular Educator

I'm a small-town gal from the south, raised in Oxford, Mississippi, until my father's job relocated us to southern Illinois, where I have been since. I'm married with four children and eight grandbabies aged four to twenty-one, making the holidays a ton of fun. We also have four fur babies in the house who think they need every bit of mom and dad's attention.

I am the Perioperative/Cardiovascular Educator for SSM Health in Southern Illinois, covering ten departments across two facilities. I started with SSM in the fall of 2011 in the Sterile Processing Department. Upon finishing nursing school in 2016, I immediately started in the OR as a scrub. I worked in the scrub role for approximately nine months before transitioning to the circulator role. In 2019, I became the regional Perioperative educator and gained the Cardiovascular world shortly after. Needless to say, my world stays pretty interesting. I attained my BSN in 2021 and am currently pursuing my MBA. I do not know my end goal; I just know I love to teach. Seeing the look on an individual's face when things are starting to come together brings a tremendous amount of joy to my heart!
