AORN’s National Legislative Forum is a monthly conference call open to all AORN members interested in legislative, regulatory and AORN Board updates. Hosted monthly by AORN Government Affairs staff, these calls are an opportunity for you to hear firsthand about legislation AORN is advancing at the state and federal levels. AORN Board members and association leadership share information about the organization’s governance, responses to current events like the pandemic and plans for future AORN meetings, continuing education opportunities and elections, to name a few.
Participating in the NLF calls provides AORN members the information you need to take back to your chapters. The calls are an opportunity to ask AORN staff and leadership the questions you need answered. Additionally, members on the call share updates and ideas from their own states.
“AORN has offered this unique and well-received member benefit for nearly three years. I enjoy participating in these calls and learning from our members the policy priorities they need us to focus on and the successes they are having in their own states,” says Linda Groah, AORN CEO and Executive Director. “I encourage anyone interested in AORN’s advocacy work to join these monthly calls.”
The AORN Government Affairs department supports advocacy on behalf of perioperative nurses before legislative and regulatory bodies at both the state and federal levels. Each year, policy priorities are identified with member feedback and approved by the Board of Directors for AORN’s Policy Agenda. This year, a great deal of AORN’s government affairs work focused on workplace safety – specifically, the evacuation of surgical smoke and pandemic workplace safety concerns.
If you are interested in participating in the monthly NLF calls, which take place on the 3rd Monday of each month at 5:30pm PT, 6:30pm MT, 7:30pm CT, and 8:30pm ET, please sign up here.
Please contact Jennifer Pennock, AORN Senior Manager of Government Affairs if you have questions.
