Lorna Tan, BSN, RN, CNOR, a clinical practice educator, has worked in both well-resourced hospitals and community settings with financial constraints. No matter the facility, she’s seen the same issue—patients arriving in preop already cold and then entering an even cooler OR.
“Patients cool off very quickly. If we’re not warming them before they come in, we’re already behind,” Tan said. “We need to think about warming them earlier—not waiting until they’re in the OR."
