Watch What's New: AORN Guideline for Prevention of Venous Thromboembolism
The Guideline for Prevention of Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) provides guidance for the perioperative RN for developing and implementing a protocol for (VTE) prevention, including prevention of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) by mechanical and pharmacologic prophylaxis and prevention of pulmonary embolism (PE) as a complication of DVT.
The recommendations are informed by a systematic review of the evidence and an assessment of the benefits and harms of alternative options in the area of venous thromboembolism prevention in the perioperative setting.
The guideline update features significant changes in the areas of VTE protocol, the VTE and bleeding risk assessment, pharmacologic and mechanical VTE prophylaxis, postoperative ambulation, and patient education.
Outcome: Participants will gain knowledge of recent updates to the Guideline for Prevention of Venous Thromboembolism and strategies for implementation.
