Dr. Joanne Muyco DNP, RN, NE-BC, CNOR
Perioperative Registered Nurse
Dr. Joanne Muyco is a perioperative registered nurse with over 10 years of nursing experience. She graduated with her BSN, MSN, and DNP from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Cizik School of Nursing. She started her OR residency in the former Fondren Brown operating room, specializing in cardiac, vascular, endovascular, thoracic, and transplant surgery. In 2017, she became the Clinical Educator for Fondren Brown and helped transition the department to the new Walter Tower operating room. In 2018 she transitioned in the CVOR Manager role where she oversaw over 70 employees, 14 operating room suites, and 4 major service lines. After graduating with her DNP in 2022, Joanne transitioned into a Nurse Scientist role, working on advancing nursing science and research with a particular focus in perioperative nursing. She is an active member of the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) both nationally and locally. Nationally, she sits on the AORN Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee and the Atmospheric Disrupters Taskforce for membership engagement. Locally, she is on the AORN Greater Houston Chapter Board of Directors and sits on the Education and Mentorship Committees. Her clinical interests include cardiovascular/thoracic/transplant surgery, perioperative death, and change in patient condition. She also has interests in perioperative nurse education, nursing professional development, and nursing leadership. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and daughters, being with family and friends, and exploring new places.
