Outstanding Achievement in Clinical Nursing Practice

Jean Franks career has spanned over 40 years.  Franks is the Sole Proprietor of Eastside Surgical Assistants, which she established in 1993. While Franks has provided surgical first assisting for various surgeons she currently works with a general laparoscopic surgeon at multiple facilities. Previously Franks has worked as a Perioperative Staff Nurse, Manager, Educator, and Director of Surgical Services. Franks passion is improving and promoting exceptional perioperative care.  She is active with AORN, having served on many committees, currently on the Legacy Committee. Franks has served as Chair of the RNFA Specialty Assembly and co-chairs the Legislative/Practice Committee, lobbying for RNFA Reimbursement, Smoke Elimination, and other issues impacting clinical practice. Franks promotes CRNFA’s, serving with CCI on RNFA certification and continues promoting RNFA’s by serving on the NASC CRNFA Portfolio Evaluation Panel. In her role of a CRNFA, Franks ensures the safety of her patients precepting other RN’s into the role of the First Assistant, seeing that every patient has what they need, and educating the staff on new procedures/techniques, positioning, equipment, and safety concerns. Franks is an unsung hero. Her ability to stay calm and focused on perioperative practices benefits staff and ensures her patients have optimal care.
