Julie Cahn, DNP, RN, CNOR, RN-BC, ACNS-BC, CNS-CP

Senior Perioperative Practice Specialist

Dr. Julie Cahn has worked in perioperative settings since 2003. She has experience as a clinical nurse in both the scrub and circulating roles in many surgical specialties, an educator, and a Clinical Nurse Specialist. She has worked in eight operating rooms across the United States from Boston to Honolulu, giving her a well-rounded perspective of clinical practice. Her work has revolved around professional development of perioperative nurses and ensuring excellence in patient outcomes. Dr. Cahn works as a Senior Perioperative Practice Specialist for AORN. She has been the lead author of five guidelines including Sterile Technique, Autologous Tissue, Specimen Management, Retained Surgical Items, and Medication Safety. She is a board member of the Malignant Hyperthermia Association of the United States (MHAUS). She publishes frequently in the Clinical Issues Column of the AORN Journal. Dr. Cahn has a BSN, an MSN as a Clinical Nurse Specialist with a secondary focus in Education, a DNP, and is currently working on her PhD. She also has a BS in History. She is certified in perioperative nursing (CNOR) and as a perioperative Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS-CP). She is also board certified as an Adult Clinical Nurse Specialist (ACNS-BC) and in nursing professional development (RN-BC).
