Heather Brennan, PhD, Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation (MTF)
Jane M. Smith, RN, CNOR, Medical City Dallas Hospital
There are a vast number of biological products available on the market today and many turn up in your OR. Perioperative professionals are expected to understand and evaluate all the biologic options in a way that controls inventory and cost but still provides for the best patient outcome. During this session, you will hear an expert in the field discuss the complications around selection of biologics, as well as a testimonial from a Biologics Coordinator who has first-hand experience managing biologics in the OR.
- Review the types of biological products that are used in the OR setting.
- Provide clinical data, when available, regarding performance of biologics.
- Develop standards related to the evaluation of a biological product or tissue form to determine the best fit for your facility and to help manage cost.
- Present examples of methods to ensure compliance for biologic use.
