AORN members approved three position statements during the Virtual Town Hall and Special Business meeting March 1, 2022.
The 350 members participating in the live virtual meeting learned about and voted to approve the AORN Position Statements on:
- Patient Safety
- Prevention of Perioperative Pressure Injury
- Health Care Equity and Racial Justice
The new and updated position statements are posted.
President Holly Ervine MSN, RN, NPD-BC, CNOR gave an overview of AORN’s planned sale and lease-back of its space in the Denver headquarters building.
AORN Bylaws Committee Chair Missi Merlino presented proposed changes to the AORN bylaws that would eliminate the requirement for specialty assemblies to meet specific specialty assembly standards, essentially allowing any perioperative specialty interest to form and network on AORN’s ORNurseLink and present education during the AORN Expo. A summary of the proposed bylaws changes is available in the February issue of the AORN Journal.
Members also heard updates about the upcoming AORN Global Surgical Conference & Expo 2022 in New Orleans later this month – the first in-person conference in three years.
“We are proud to see an increasing number of our members taking part in our business meetings,” said President Ervine. “It’s important that our members stay involved, and we’re helping make that easier with both in-person and virtual participation at Congress 2022 while we’re in New Orleans for AORN Expo”
Instructions and resources for the upcoming Congress – including voting during the Forums and House of Delegates, are available at AORN Governance Resources.
