Periop Mastery Program FAQs

Is an administrator required?

Yes, if a facility purchases Periop Mastery seats, an administrator must serve as the point-person between the facility and AORN. This includes providing a seat roster to AORN.

How long do students have access?

Individuals who purchase Periop Mastery have one year from the date of purchase to complete the courses.

Students in facility purchases have one year to complete the program once AORN assigns the courses.

Why should I offer Periop Mastery Program to my nursing staff?

Experienced RNs need resources to stay up-to-date with the latest practices. AORN designed this program to help practicing perioperative RNs maintain their competency and improve their confidence in their practice.

AORN’s online Periop Mastery Program is designed to bring your entire staff up-to-date on the latest AORN’s Guidelines for Perioperative Practice. The program uses a patented learning methodology, helping the student retain knowledge, and recall that knowledge at critical moments.

Can new RNs enroll in Periop Mastery?

The Periop Mastery Program is intended for experienced RNs. It can help staff and facilities:

  • Assess annual competencies
  • Prepare for site visits, or create action plans post-visit as a result of findings
  • On-board experienced or travel RNs
  • Provide annual training
  • Address remediation concerns
  • Implement general education initiatives

Are there any resources to help the administrator implement the program?

Yes, the Administrator Implementation Guide provides information on the theory behind Periop Mastery, the components of the program, and help with developing a schedule.

Administrators can access the Guide after they log into the AORN web site and click the link to the Periop Mastery Learning Center. The Guide is optional and does not provide contact hours.

Are there any resources to help students understand the program?

Yes, navigation instructions and information on the program components are included in the Periop Mastery Learning Center.

What are the requirements to earn contact hours?

Each course within the Periop Mastery Program has its own contact hours. Students must complete all modules within a course and complete a course evaluation to earn the contact hours for that course. Students can print a Certificate of Completion from the PMP web site after they complete a course.
