The perioperative RN will gain knowledge and identify skills required to provide safe, optimal care to an adult patient undergoing a cardiac catheterization or electrophysiology procedure.

Course Objectives

  • Identify common indications for an adult to undergo a cardiovascular cardiac catheterization/electrophysiology patient care procedure
  • Describe the types of interventional and outpatient cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology procedures
  • Identify potential complications and appropriate responses
  • Describe the intra procedural positioning considerations for an adult undergoing a cardiac catheterization/electrophysiology patient care procedure
  • Identify the equipment necessary to prepare the cardiac catheterization/electrophysiology patient care procedure room
  • Apply safe perioperative practices when caring for an adult undergoing a cardiac catheterization/electrophysiology patient care procedure
  • Establish collaborative partnerships with professionals along the patient’s continuum of care

Course Outcome

80% of the learners who complete the course will be able to state three practices they will implement for safe care in the cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology lab.

Contact Hours

Upon completion of the course and course evaluation, students will earn 1.5 contact hours. This program is approved for up to 1.0 hours of AEUs and up to 0.0 hours of IPCHs by BASC Provider #0102.
