This course provides key topics for the perioperative nurse to increase their knowledge and assist them in providing optimal care for the patient undergoing a hand or wrist procedure in the inpatient or outpatient setting. The course includes an anatomy review, procedure indications, and information about patient care before, during, and after a hand or wrist procedure.

Course Objectives

  • Identify common indications for an adult patient to undergo a hand or wrist procedure.
  • Describe the types of hand and wrist procedures that may be performed.
  • Apply safe perioperative practices when caring for a patient scheduled for a hand or wrist procedure.
  • Describe the basic equipment and workflow for hand and wrist procedures.
  • Establish collaborative partnerships with professionals along the patient’s continuum of care.

Outcome

90% of learners will recall the responsibilities related to the care of patients undergoing hand or wrist procedures, as evidenced by a passing score of at least 80% on the final exam.
